ABSTRACT: Silver carp are an invasive species that are capable of significantly altering the habitats that they invade. These fish are present in the Wabash River and are a threat to native species by competing for available food. We collected diet samples and isotope samples from invasive silver carp and two native competitor species (bigmouth buffalo and gizzard shad) in three river sections in Indiana (Lafayette, Terre Haute, Vincennes). Diet and isotope samples were analyzed to determine the overlap between the diets of the native and invasive species as well as overlap between river sections. River algae samples were also collected at each section and compared to silver carp diets to determine selectivity.
