ABSTRACT: A rapidly changing climate and other landscape changes are increasing the pace, scale, and complexity of conservation challenges. In response, the Department of Interior launched the Landscape Conservation Cooperative (LCC) Network. The 22 LCCs collectively form a network of resource managers and scientists with a vision of landscapes capable of sustaining natural and cultural resources for current and future generations. The Upper Midwest and Great Lakes LCC, established in 2010, has brought the conservation community together to identify and addresses shared conservation challenges. In its early history, much of the focus was on advancing the state of knowledge and filling information gaps on climate science. Recently, the LCC has moved beyond these efforts, and is now working to identify and address shared landscape conservation goals. With this new focus, the leveraging and synthesizing of past and new science will aide conservation decisions toward shared goals and help the conservation community develop a shared vision of future landscapes that sustain natural and cultural resources. In addition to an overview of LCC supported climate science aiding state-level management, the presentation will briefly describe the recent shift in focus.
